L'Institut des actuaires a le plaisir de vous inviter au webinaire Assessing How the Insurance Industry Integrates Biodiversity Risks and Opportunities into Decision-Making lundi 14 octobre à 18h.
Abstract: the insurance industry plays a key role in shaping and facilitating socio-economic activity, which both impacts and depends on biodiversity. As such, reversing global declines in biodiversity will require transformative changes, where the industry’s engagement is essential. This study presents findings from 35 semi-structured interviews with global industry informants from a diverse range of roles and organisations. It examines engagement levels, actions, drivers, and the challenges and opportunities for large-scale transformation to address biodiversity loss. Although still in its early stages, results show a growing recognition of biodiversity's importance in the industry. Regulatory measures and international bodies are essential for aligning efforts with environmental goals. Efforts are underway to integrate biodiversity risks into strategies and develop relevant portfolios. Beyond transforming operations and portfolios, the insurance industry must be able to support transitions to a sustainable socio-economic state. This requires addressing questions on the insurability of nature and its valuation.
