Abstract
In the current low interest rate environment, insurance companies are required to review their sources of profit in their technical result. Insurers must pay closer attention than before to the profit achieved per product. This environment provides an ideal economic environment for implementing a risk analysis and management approach for a non-life insurance company. The Solvency 2 regulations that came into effect in January 2016 establish rules for the capital requirements an insurance company must hold on to on a permanent basis to conduct its business. The approaches for calculating the regulatory capital SCR (Solvency Capital Requirement) in the Solvency 2 environment, determine this regulatory capital at the level of the Solvency 2 line of business but do not allocate it by product. Thus, to optimize its strategic orientation, the insurer needs to know the contribution of each product to the regulatory capital and the future profits it generates. This paper proposes a review of the Internal Model approach for the calculation of the SCR, and then discusses the main allocation methods of the actuarial sciences. After recalling the important notions, we will present a new risk management approach for the non-life entities of Generali France. This approach allows the analysis of capital consumption and profitability by product using the introduced indicators. This approach can be used in many subjects related to risk management in insurance, including portfolio supervision, launching new product, pricing, and the definition of reinsurance strategies.
