Abstract
The calculation of the required capital in order to the solvency of the company is based on the projection of future flows of each portfolio. This requires a control of the reserves’ level by the regulator, but above all by the company itself. Indeed, in order to improve the reliability of the calculation of technical reserves, the Actuarial Function must guarantee the relevance of the methodologies, the underlying models and the assumptions used. To assess the accuracy of the reserving method used, it is necessary to take into account all possible sources of error associated with the calculation of technical reserves. With this in mind, the purpose of this paper entitled "Error Measures for the Best Estimate of Technical Reserves", is to integrate the errors generated by all the elements involved in the calculation of the best estimate of technical reserves : data, model and assumptions. This paper proposes to quantify which bias can be associate with the calculation of the liabilities of an insurance. It’s based on various approaches such as the detection of anomalies on each of the databases used, the quantification of the various sources of uncertainty involved in the construction of the law of experience (statistical fluctuations, portfolio heterogeneity and temporal drift) and the realization of a back-testing allowing the comparison of the technical provisions with the corresponding empirical data. It will be applied to the "death from all causes" risk of an individual insurance portfolio of Natixis Assurance group.
